The provision of social work, personal care, and support services to children or adults who are at risk or require special care due to illness, disability, old age, or poverty-related challenges is known as social care. Nigeria is home to a large population of seniors and vulnerable people who require personal (social) care. However, within its culture and context, family members and unskilled domestic workers, a.k.a house helpers—who perform menial labour for little pay and no benefits are typically responsible for providing care for children, the elderly, and the vulnerable.
This has undoubtedly played a significant role in the premature deaths of many seniors, children, and vulnerable citizens of the nation. Many of these individuals die from inadequate care and at the moment, no deliberate government policy, agency, or organization has taken up the challenge of providing for this need within its population. This has led to a mass exodus (japaa) of a large number of Nigerians, both young and old who can afford to relocate to the developed countries to spend their old age where they can get proper care and support services, leaving others to either fend for themselves with what little care they get or pass away too soon.
Additionally, the social care industry has the potential to employ millions of young people in Nigeria if they are properly trained, recruited, deployed, and monitored. However, this industry currently receives little or no attention, and many young people who can afford it head west to work as caregivers for seniors, children, and the vulnerable.
With this as a growing need, we aim to provide respite, recovery, and personal care support services to reduce loneliness, show empathy, ensure comfort, and promote clients' independence in a safe, considerate, and dignified environment at a reasonable and affordable cost. Good Hands Support will passionately provide these services and help to improve the quality of life for our clients and their families.
